It’s Time to Clam Up!

As of this writing, the weather on Sunday is predicted to be cloudy but that doesn’t mean you should stay home from the beach at Old Greenwich’s Tod’s Point. It promises to be a day full of activities that will appeal to kids and wannabe kids (I’m guilty).

Bruce Museum Seaside Center Opens Sunday, June 21st from 11 to 5 pm

The Bruce Museum Seaside Center opens for the summer season on Sunday at Greenwich Point Park.

The Seaside Center is open for the season from Tuesday – Sunday, 11:00 am – 5:00 pm and admission is free.* Visit the Seaside Center this summer for fun and fascinating seaside activities for the entire family, including:

  • Shoreline Seining at Low Tide
  • Coastal Scavenger Hunts
  • Animal Feedings
  • Squid Dissection
  • Seaweed Pressings

Always, the Seaside Center educates visitors about the ecology of Long Island Sound and features:

  • Live-animal marine touch tank open year-round
  • Four marine aquaria of local species open seasonally
  • Seashore dioramas of summer and winter birds, fish, and other local species, and an underwater oyster reef
  • Environmental activities and video presentations
  • Helpful naturalists and volunteers

* Please note that although there is no admission fee for the Seaside Center, from May through October a beach pass is required to enter Greenwich Point Park, where the Seaside Center is located. See the Town of Greenwich website for beach pass and parking pass information.

Clams and Oysters – “Experience the Sound” from 1 to 4 pm

In conjunction with the opening of the Seaside Center, come enjoy the Greenwich Shellfish Commission’s Experience the Sound event at the park. The free raw bar, offering clams and oysters, is just a taste of the activities they have planned. Visit the Soundwaters Schooner or hop on a Police Boat. Take a guided historical cycling tour, “History on Wheels”, offered by the Greenwich Historical Society .
